Theresa M. Vera, PhD

President, MJM Signature Group

Theresa M. Vera, PhD is President of MJM Signature Group. As such, Dr Vera is responsible for strategic oversight, operational excellence and business growth. Dr Vera has a long-held passion for blending science, business and education. Prior to joining MJM Signature Group, Dr Vera spent 12 years at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, taking on numerous roles within the medical affairs organization including Global Scientific Director, and Global Head, Medical Affairs Training. Before taking on a global assignment, Dr Vera spent 7 years in US Medical Affairs at Takeda assuming varying roles and strengthening her cross-functional knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry. Having worked in Strategic Planning and Operations, Publications, and Medical Education, Dr Vera served as scientific lead for the US Medical Affairs team in the launch of a novel antidepressant for Major Depressive Disorder, led the execution of Medical Affairs’ strategic plans in gout, anemia, and cardiometabolic disease, and managed neuroscience and gastroenterology healthcare professional education. Prior to her time with Takeda, Dr Vera gained experience in medical and promotional pharmaceutical communications during her tenure as Senior Medical Writer and ultimately Director, Clinical Communications, at CPE Communications. Dr Vera returned to CPE in 2020 to lead the company through its next phase of growth.

Dr Vera graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and received her doctorate degree in pharmacology, also from Loyola University Chicago. Dr Vera went on to complete two postdoctoral fellowships at the National Institutes of Mental Health, as a PRAT Fellow, and Northwestern University’s Institute for Neuroscience. Her time at the research bench resulted in nearly 30 peer-reviewed publications.

Laura Gartner

Senior Director, Program Management

As Senior Director of Program Management, Laura brings over 20 years of medical education experience to CPE Communications. In 1997, after 10 years in public relations, marketing, and management-including a marketing manager position at a large medical device manufacturer - Laura entered the medical education field. She has held several senior-level positions in program management and operations in which she was responsible for program development and implementation teams as well as company operations. Throughout her career, Laura has served on several executive management committees. In 2003, she was a recipient of the Healthcare Business Women's Association Rising Star award. Laura has successfully applied her extensive product knowledge, organizational skills, and management experience to the direction of medical education programs on both national and international levels. Such programs have included continuing medical education symposia, speaker training programs, advisory board meetings, product launch initiatives, slide lecture kits, patient education materials, newsletters, clinical monographs, and virtual and web-based activities. Her therapeutic experience spans the areas of gastroenterology, infectious diseases, women's health, men's health, neurosciences, cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary diseases, solid organ transplantation, and oncology. At CPE Laura works closely with clients and the internal program teams on the overall implementation and execution of senior-level educational programs.
